We do the RIGHT thing
Over 1 million bottles are purchased every minute around the world and 80% end up in landfill and oceans. The average person in the UK will use 150 plastic water bottles each year. If just one in ten Brits refilled once a week we’d have 340 million less plastic bottles a year in circulation At the Staffler we encourage drinking water from the tap. In fact, we don’t sell bottled water at all. We provide a glass refill bottle in all our guest rooms together with glass drinking glasses. Bottled tap water is always available at breakfast and dinner and if you have a refill bottle then chilled water is available, free of charge throughout the day and evening. We work closely with City and Sea, an award-winning, not-for-profit organisation campaigning to stop plastic pollution
As a Tripadvisor Green Leader award holder, we encompass a linen and towel reuse program, energy tracking, energy-efficient bulbs, staff and guest Green Initiatives education, 100% recycle wastewater treatment and food traceability and mileage. Our guest room waste bin liners are 100% compostable. Throughout our bars, restaurant and hotel we have progressed from plastic to paper and now to stainless steel reusable straws, takeaway coffee cups and lids, pizza boxes and disposable drinking tumblers. At the reception our complimentary guest ‘forgets’ include bamboo toothbrushes and cotton buds.
We use ‘Fair Trade’ product wherever we can as well as recycled or washable napkins. Our Clipper tea bags are 100% paper – no plastic and we know the grower of our wonderful Kofra coffee beans. We operate a comprehensive recycling program including cardboard, paper, metals, plastics, glass and food waste. All unclaimed clothing in lost property is donated to Austrian charities. Our cooking oil is stored and collected to be recycled into Biodiesel.
By the start of our anniversary season, we are also aiming to become the first hotel in the Tirol to become carbon neutral through a combination of our existing and new Eco-Friendly policies and some carbon offsetting. Watch this space!
We really love our food at the Staffler. And with that food love comes a reluctance to throw any of it away. So we’ve asked around and collected knowledge and ideas and perfected a number of techniques and good habits to enable us to make the very most of our beloved food.
We offer an increasing number of Vegetarian and Vegan dishes at dinner as well as non-dairy milk, cheeses and butter at breakfast. We even offer a Vegetarian Bacon Roll alongside our traditional cooked breakfast options.
We’re an old hotel and some things we simply can’t do – wherever we can, we will!
